Another important absentee from BMG's CD catalogue, the Zacoso reissue of the LP may still be picked up without too much difficulty in Madrid second-hand bookstalls (along the edge of the Retiro Park) and is well worth acquiring. The famous gypsy song "Una gitana preciosa" doesn't have anything to do with the plot, as it's sung by the zarzuela's heroine as she waits for news of her lover. Iriarte, to put it kindly, does not banish memories of Berganza or Supervía in this catchy song, but elsewhere she and her illustrious partners do plenty of justice to Serrano's delightful score. The LP coupling is Chapí's Música Clásica.
