This interesting-looking issue is a let-down, at least for the zarzuela selections. Obradors was a persistent but unsuccessful zarzuelero, and this uninspired 1929 score proves to be of academic interest only, although the singers - especially Sagi-Barba in a lively but vapid Brindis and genuinely funny comic tenor Díaz in two scenes - do their best to liven proceedings. The CD is worth hearing mainly for the brief fillers from the composer's marvellous Canciones clásicos españolas.
