Torregrosa and Valverde's one-act zarzuela cómica was written for a children's company, and its miniature musical score (4 numbers plus instrumental Preludio and Final) is a real treat. It is performed authentically by the boy's choir Escolania del Escorial, with alert piano accompaniment. The solo roles (including a pair of passionate lovers!) are generally confidently taken by the excellent young singers, and director Carmena adopts perfect tempi throughout. This filler for a disc of songs and cantatas by Guridi and Abril turned out to be the Surprise Packet of 2008!
