La ciudad eterna (Eduardo
Granados)

BMCD 7554 [extracts]
This was the most successful zarzuela by Eduardo
Granados, short-lived son of the great Enrique; and though the music of his
Venetian melodrama proves no more than modestly engaging it is very strongly
sung by the famous husband and wife team who created the leading roles. Blue
Moon's transfer of the 1921 recording is fair, and if the rarity value of
these 22' of highlights appeals there is no reason to hesitate - although the
main couplings, 10 extracts from El pájaro
azúl, are more of a disappointment.
