La fama del tartanero (1931) may not be as inspired as La rosa del azafrán from the previous year, but it contains some worthwhile music in Guerrero's best Spanish vein. The fairly complete recording from BMG is thoroughly recommendable, even though it does not set the pulse racing quite as surely as the brief but treasurable extracts under the composer himself featuring stars of the quality of Redondo and Arregui. These are avilable on a well-filled Blue Moon issue with diverse but equally valuable couplings.
