Torregrosa's most substantial score gets Rolls-Royce treatment from an unmatchable cast and conductor. In the final scene Rosado provides one of the most moving performances in the zarzuela discography. This indispensible disc is coupled, conveniently, with its twin sainete El santo de la Isidra.

The Novoson reissue is coupled, less logically, with Chapí's El barquillero, in what is its only official CD reissue.
