Of the two composers who are credited with this delightful cabaret skit, Vives's star was rising, and much of the music has his stylistic fingerprint and sensual lightness of touch. The short musical sketches culminate with the famous Cat's Couplets, played with smouldering sexiness by de Córdoba, often a major asset in character roles and here very much the star of the show. With great support all round, there's no need to hesitate - especially as the substantial coupling is a highly recommendable version of El puñao de rosas.
