Although this is by no means the strongest of the great Alhambra series it continues to serve as a useful stopgap, as it has been doing since the mid 1950's! Iriarte is a gusty Concha, not least in the famous Canción española "De España vengo". Ausensi is a bruising Manacor and Portillo caricatures Jenaro unamusingly. The recording is horribly murky, and the transfer clouds the issue further. Still, here we have a reasonable selection of Luna's sophisticated and exotic score (46') and in all honesty gratitude must outweigh gripes.
