This country melodrama (1929) preceded Díaz Giles' better known El cantar del arriero, but it is a strong score, well represented here in ten substantial extracts, gloriously sung by the original cast. Herrero and Pulido are on splendid form, and there is a strong culminating contribution from Hertogs' lustrous bass. The fillers on this all-Díaz Giles Blue Moon issue are almost as interesting, and the CD is heartily recommended to anyone looking for some out of the way pre-Civil War repertoire.
