There are few more rousing openings than the first, famous bars of Chapí's Preludio, and under Argenta's military discipline the zest of this Napoleonic comedy is sustained through to the very end. His crack support troops include Rosado, balancing fervour and flirtaciousness to great effect in her Rataplán song. Coupled with La alsaciana, this is a classic performance which will give much pleasure.
