This ultra-conservative Catalan sarsuela from the
1960's set in the Napoleanic Wars is a curious throwback, "Rataplan" duet and
all, to a simple, populist 19th century style. Agustí Cohí
Grau is a beloved pillar of Barcelona's musical community, and the
recording is perhaps more a gracious tribute to his influence than a testament
to any enduring interest in the work itself, good though the performance
is.
